Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds gameplay video music redesign.

For my bachelor’s thesis I decided to write about adaptive music for open world adventure/rpg games. In my thesis i explored several different approaches to making adaptive music using horizontal resequencing, branching, stingers as transitions and vertical remixing (vertical layering). I also made music to show examples for the theory in the thesis. To show how the implementation could be done I used a short gameplay video from Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds where I replaced the music with a project I made in Wwise. As seen in the video I switch between different states and switches that result in change of music depending on the situation the player is in. There is combat music, explore music, tension music and stingers that make transitions between the different states seamless. The SFX sounds are all original sounds from the game. All music was made using Ableton Live as well as some trimming of audio in Reaper. The music is a mixture of hardware synthesis and VSTs. If you should want to read my bachelor thesis on the subject, do not hesitate to contact me here.

Software: Ableton Live, Reaper, Wwise.
